Rainy Bangalore

I had just got off from work. The clock had just struck 6.35pm. I had missed talking to him because I got late, it didn’t really matter that he had been pretty tied up himself. The air was still, dusk was still yet to fall, and as soon as I stepped on the dusty streets...drop by drop, it all came pouring down suddenly. Within moments I was soaked to my skin… with my dearest possessions: laptop, ipod, cell phone and my watch nicely tucked in my bag pack; I finally allowed myself to let the rains purge my soul. For once it felt so good, I didn’t care about worldly things, gloomy thoughts that had been clouding my mind disappeared into thin air and memories came flooding in… Rains always reminds me of rain kissed Kolkata, the headlights of taxies getting blurred when seen from the rearview windows of cars, jumping over ditches and trudging through knee deep waters with shoes in hand…

Memories of rain kissed Kolkata are really something.. Like waking up to raindrops on my window pane.... tunneling deeper in my blanket and pulling it over my eyes…avoiding… first school and then as years wore on, college… Ma bringing in coffee and settling on my bed for a chat...running to the terrace as the storm threatened to blow the laundry away...Then there was the day when I left home for Bangalore about two years back… it had rained that day too… as if nature was crying with me, dissolving my pain and fears of leaving home for the first time…

I have had the strangest fixation with rains… Rains had always captured my imagination and if you have been reading me for as long as I have been ranting in this space, you will know exactly what I mean…

Rains suit your every mood don’t they? Sometimes when you are upset, let down by the world… you find a companion in the rains…they seem to wash away the pain and fill you with renewed energy…  Sometimes it just purges your soul and makes you feel whole again. That’s exactly what happened with me today. Days of feeling as if pain will tear me apart, as if a part of me has been amputed, numb.. for once the rain filled up a void in me which I have always suspected was within me but never knew existed. So what happened? I tried something which always helped: Retail therapy. O yes! After buying a skirt, a pair of three quarters and a matching tee, a pair of shorts, a wonderful green sweatshirt, a nice cute top and a cute night dress, yesterday, yes you read it right YESTERDAY! I went ahead and got myself some lingerie!! I tell you retail therapy really works!! And at the rate I’m going I’m surely gonna land up as a pauper before my next pay check arrives and that’s just 7 days to go… : ) Jokes apart… sometimes when we smile despite the pain that weighs you down, it feels great… smiling takes effort but when you do… the soul feels liberated..just like the rains that washes the dirt off the leaves, giving them a new lease of life..

Smile and the world smiles with you…  Gnite people… let the night fairy weave beautiful dreams on those lashes… let the fatigue give away to peaceful slumber…

My funny moment

I think i have nagged and bored you guys to death with all my sordid tales and homesickness... and for once i need a breather... so here is a funny anecdote i was wanting to write for long but never managed to do it... :)

Somehow i always thought i was this prim and proper girl... and i always do my utmost to appear as impeccable as possible and what in turn happens is whenever i want something not to happen it does..

i was not in best of my mood while coming to Bangalore in a train...moreover there were guys my age... who were wondering the cause of the tearful farewell i got when i left...and not just that they were trying to draw my attention by playing loud music .. chatting or making a racket... there i was either on my berth or on the top side bunk trying to read or listen to music alternatively... when the last day dawned... when we were supposed to disembark... i was carefully climbing the runks of the iron ladder of the bunk and on the last step i just leapt on the ground... the last thing i wanted was for the guys, who were noting my every step, to stare shamelessly at my exposed midriff. but hell that's what happened...as i jumped off the last rung my tee got caught on the top rung and as i got off the ground a part of my tee was still caught at the ladder and i was there for them to oogle at...damn! i dont know how i did it..but somehow i managed to yank off my tee and bury myself in the newspaper refusing to even look at the blokes... there was a hushed silence from their coup too and hell it was embarrassing..

when i saw these guys take a prepaid cab and leave... i heaved a sigh of relief, praying that, that was the last time i met them in life...this really really was one of those moments you wish never ever came back again..god i wish that was the last time i saw the whole bunh!!sheesh! :P

tell me a funny moment in your life? something that embarrassed you but when you looked back you had a hearty laugh?

Happy and Smiling again!

I haven't been in too good a mood of late. probably i have pissed off many by not taking calls or replying to the Ims and sms's. i have been unable to blog, there was no interest and no desire to do so. i have missed many post of yours which i should have read and commented, while some of you who have been extremely understanding and kind to me regarding the same, some have come up and demanded why i haven't replied to the comments or visited their blogs. to the latter i just have something to clarify, there are times i read but i am unable to comment, but basically i blog because i want to, and that it is a source of pleasure for me, i don't want to reduce it to a liability, where i feel obligated to comment just because someone has commented, i will do it because i want to not because i have to. so if i haven't been up to your expectation,i am sorry but i am what i am.

Anyway moving on... as of now i am feeling a whole lot better, in kinda good mood you can say. finally right now its raining, i mean the proper hours long rain that washes away the dust and clearing the humidity that made life so impossible for us.this is the first monsoon showers of the season.it pretty late but nonetheless here... so that's surely a breather. but i wanted to enjoy my beloved rains here before moving on. and thank god my wish was granted!did i tell you i absolutely love the rains??!! i simply loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorve the rains!! :D :)

On other happy events. very recently most of my friends from school met up and we had a whale of a time together, some of whom i was meeting after 5 long years. you can imagine 11 ladies seated at a corner at one of Kolkata's finest restaurants in a well known mall for a buffet; chattering, giggling, clicking pictures away to glory and having a ball. everyone was like super happy and excited to be back and it was one happy reunion! thankfully i met up all these beautiful people before i left or else id be missing on a lot, since i don't think i will be around for the later reunions. what i absolutely loved was the fact, that despite meeting up after 5 years it didn't seem as if we hadst been out of touch at all. and there was never a dull or awkward moment, smiles and giggles ruled the whole outing and it was one happening event to be in.

As the days are rolling by and time to leave comes nearer the fear and apprehension is making me all the more anxious and nervous but I'm trying my best to not make it more difficult for me and take things as they come.. and if you have friends like Nikhil and Anwesa who keep reminding you of the number of days left... god u can imagine... I'm ready to tear my hair out! :) :P Sorry to all you lovely people who has had to read my rants about my insecurities and leaving home blues.. sorry to have bored you to death but i will try and not whine and make it all worthwhile and if indeed i fail to keep my word please be patient as this is one of the most rough and harsh phase of my life... i will bounce back with my chirpy ways...

And o yeah... there is this one deed that makes me a lot happier and relived these days... there has been something that had made me all cold and unapproachable and this was because i have been angry and bitter... but i have learnt to let go and do what i want.. even if it means contradicting myself and at the cost of appearing confused to many... i will maintain what i had realized for myself... that i will preserve my individuality and strength of character no matter what...but at the same time... i will do things which i feel like doing... for i am answerable to no-one but myself. this makes me happy and i am happy to be loved and to love. it makes my plight a lot lesser and my heart a lot lighter... and makes me one happy girl!

Happy Rains to all you lovely people.... and ya in case you are interested in reading the guest post i wrote for NE aka Nehya...and here is one i did for Vinay aka Leo too...just click on the names.. :).. cya around!!

Beginning to an End

i was so looking forward to the college to end.but what i had not anticipated even in my wildest dreams that college coming to an end, would mean not seeing you in college everyday.

those conversations through scribbling on chits,
those moments of absolute bliss,
the study sessions,
the urgent phone calls,
and midnight texts
the jittery nerves.
the silent gazes and hasty hugs.
the scribbles and doodles,
the fake tattoos and autographs
the canteen talk or bitching sessions.
the reminiscence of happier times,
the tears of anguish and distress
the smiles and promises of a better tomorrow.
will be missed.

love is hardly the word, that can express just what i feel for you, thank you for being my friend.

its my last day at college tomorrow, Wednesday is our farewell. the day i have been waiting for is here. from here, it will be an onward journey and i will make good things happen.

Make your vote count

I so wanted to write a post on the upcoming elections and the fact that we must exercise our right to vote. but then being apolitical and politics illiterate I'm hardly the person to write it. all i feel right now is that we voters hardly have options from which to vote from. and its more of voting the lesser of the evils from the whole lot. that's hardly assuring isn't it? what amuses me and in turn disgusts me, is the mudslinging every party engages in just to promote themselves. there is no decorum or decency. moreover a new trend has made its presence felt, that is of flinging of the shoe towards the politicians, while it may just mirror the anger and sheer annoyance on the part of the common man, it however does not justify itself, for it was done in real bad taste. what is hilarious is the political manifestos... see them and tally them with the youth and the youth problems and you will have yet another reason not to vote even though the political parties are trying their best to woo the youth who constitute the majority of vote the bank. but hey does not mean you don't vote... do ahead and vote, for change.

check this link it is a video.. it was shot in my college with me and my friends... most of whom you will recognize! :) have fun watching the video and don't forget to vote.

Take a look at: Tubaah: Young voters in Kolkata feel disconnected with politicians

NDTV news reporter Monideepda Banerjee [in green salwar] in the centre,
Satrajit, Ishani, Shubhankar, Monideepa mam, Me, Soumik
Payel, Tista,Pooja, Rohit and Arindam

ones in red are my friends, whom i had mentioned before :)

My College Days 2

I was a prefect in my school for four consecutive years. i was the vice house captain in class 9 and then the house captain in class 10 [yellow house or Vivekananda house] all through voting. in class 11 and 12 i became the prefect, to put it modestly i was popular amongst my peers as well as juniors. event organizing or house meetings, thinking strategies or practicing for house matches i was there everywhere. maybe that's why college seemed to me as a huge leap, a step into the big bad world.

when i first started looking forward to college i always knew i would get into St Xavier's. after all it was our brother school, i had the qualification and the state level rower tag and several other activities under my belt; why on earth would i be rejected? i was confident and hopeful. but my hopes was dashed into a million pieces when i saw i wasn't featured anywhere on the list and the Principal of the college flung my extra curricular activities [some 40 odd certificates in different field] claiming them to be utter rubbish and asked me to furnish certificates of things i did in the last two years of my life. that was the most discouraging moment of my life, i have never felt disillusioned, broken and completely defeated before like this before. my confidence was shattered. it took a while for me to recover and it wasn't until i got through to JU.

My father is an ex student of JU, and i have grown up with the stories of JU but strangely i never developed a keen interest to join my dad's college to maintain the legacy. in fact JU was one of my last options despite it being the best in Kolkata. the day i went to pick up the forms for JU, i fell in love with the lush gardens, friendly seniors, open spaces and the huge campus. it was then i realized my calling. Yes, mass communication may have been a dream but studying literature has been a passion i had nurtured ever since i could remember. i finally found hope in the darkest hour of my life, and from the shattered dream was born a new me.

the reason why JU is simply the best is because you have the freedom to be just you. whether straight, gay or bisexual people confidently flaunt their sexuality, keeping aside gender bias girls and guys are treated equally not just by the management but also by students, gender bias has not really come to my notice, girls and guys smoke alike without the glares of moral police. to be honest i got lost in the vast campus and the vibrant people. from the popular girl in school i became the shy, and unknown girl, it was scary so i choose to look for dark corners to hide now and then. it took awhile to open up but somehow i could never establish the familiarity with the campus that i could once associate with my school. and to add to my woes, i joined Ju with the committed tag.. and that cost me some very potential boy friends who now remain but as friends!!can you beat that? lol! :P

my favorite hangouts in campus were varied, specially in different phases in college. in the first semester when Shubhankar and i were inseparable, we and some other friends including Rohit would hang out in what is known as the jheel par [a small lake] then Shubhankar and i fell apart, i had a new set of friends and we used to hang out in the BBC[ the basket ball court] after classes and just lie there for hours altogether. during daytime we would hang out in a place called gol [a round bench around a tree] the ledge has of course been a favorite throughout for all batches, Shubhankar and i would often sit on the ledge studying and exchanging notes, it was also a witness to the numerous fights we used to have :). later when i became much more studious and serious my hideout used to be the DL[departmental library] in the comforts of the AC and away from prying eyes there i would spend my afternoons.we have around 6-7 canteens in our college, and i have frequented almost all of them except the E-faculty ones [engineering people frequent there] because they are rowdy and rather intimidating and they ogle you like anything.. after all to them people from the arts faculty are big shot hots and prized possessions, specially since they seem to have droughts of female population :P lol! Milon da's canteen remains the most popular of all canteens however no one can equal the coffee found in the AC canteen!!phew!! after Shubhankar and i patched up, the back lanes of JU became our utopia, away from prying eyes and gossip mongers there we rebuilt our friendship.

sigh! i don't know about the people but i will surely miss the campus and the ambiance of JU. there is an old Bengal feel to it. i got in touch with my roots, this is the first time i started talking fluently in my mother tongue, my convent upbringing really handicapped in speaking Bengali. Ju for the first time gave me Bengali friends and through them i savoured Bangaliana. Ju is the one place where you are you, and you are not really judged by the background you come from, or the clothes you wear or the people you move around with. the motto of campus life in JU is live and let live and if you have attitude flaunt it. its been an enriching experience here, a place which will always be remembered as a benchmark in my life, where i actually outgrew the protected life i lived during my school life and entered the adult world with its responsibilities and its spiteful and vicious claws. as i step over the threshold i carry but the good memories as unhappy ones and the distasteful ones are left behind buried in what will soon be my past.

i cant believe i have grown up enough to finish college. i still consider myself a school kid.
you know what? when i was in class 3 once while doing maths i thought id just study till class 12 because i was finding doing maths tough. in class 12 i knew id just finish graduation and further studies wouldn't even be an option, and here i am almost a graduate and i crave to study more.. :) weird na??

2 more working days to go! woohooo!!! :)

Bolt from the blue

It is a strange feeling when out of the blue comes someone whom you had lost in time. the feel is a little surprising, a whole lot queasy and nostalgic too. and when it happens to be your first crush whom you thought didn't notice you at all then. well i reopened my Facebook account again, for the god-knows-how-many-Th-time! and there was this invitation from this person called Maradona. and stunned i sat, staring at the invitation for whole 5 minutes. [Now his real name is Soumya and but he was popular by his nick name from the time i knew him.]

He was the first ever guy, i noticed and i had an instant crush on him. No i never told him i liked him, i never felt the need. Instead i helped him propose to my friend :D yeah crazy i was! but i was happy! i remember how i used to go to my skating classes without fail just so that mam would tell me to show him a few steps, and how happy i had been when once mam told me to hold his hands and show him the steps better. Nervous and excited almost apprehensive to hold hands, but he had reached out to take my hands in his to get me started. sigh! :D i remember how he used to be this stud, despite not being good looking and all, and id be just another girl, whom he barely noticed. once i had gone to our club, where there was a fair and i accompanied my neice, to climb up the 'air castle'- those things where kids are sent to jump and climb up, just to see him from the very top. damn! i never dared to tell him anything, maybe because i didn't think i was good enough; or because i was happy staring and admiring him from afar. i don't think he ever noticed me as an entity ever!

But apparently i was wrong. so am i happy or what? well a little to see that he actually found me out after almost10 years. that sure was something. made me smile at all those childish things i had done, just to see him. and how on finally realizing, that i never really existed for him, i withdrew from the club, never to go there again, which i still don't even now. but really thinking back i cant help but smile even those tears i had shed thinking of never seeing him and the dramatic feeling that i was moving away for good, had a sense of innocent love and is really endearing now. sigh!

My Apologies

that's my stress ball :)

I had a different post lined up for today but then i rescheduled it. there are far more important things to discuss. please bear with me. today is the 15Th day of January, and new year has begun a fortnight back and here i am churning out one dark post after another which has nothing but negativity. somehow after my previous post I'm ashamed and thoroughly guilty for torturing all my friends who have to put up with reading all the crap i keep writing.

I have often wondered why you guys read me. i used to write before. but not many read me then. but why now? i don't know. No no im not cribbing here...I'm rather glad you guys do, and i would love if you guys kept reading and commenting, because at the end of the day when stress and fatigue almost does me in, the thought of blogging, commenting, and talking to my blogger friends keeps me alive. thus for this other world far away from reality is my retreat. so your presence, each and everyone of you that is, is very precious to me. so i do owe you all an apology.

No one likes to read someone ranting, some who is insecured or is cranky. the positive energy and warmth draws people to him/her. but that doesn't mean one has to change to please others but that's just a sign that shows you that time has come to turn over a new leaf. I'm feeling rather ashamed and guilty for being utterly cranky and extremely difficult. i know i write for myself but perhaps i have taken that a bit too seriously, for i have friends reading me and its so crappy to come upon a blog that speaks only of negative things.however thank you SO much for the beautiful and warm comments, that made me feel so loved and cared for, I'm touched and overwhelmed really. so here i resolve to come out of this gloomy phase and think optimistic and be positive.

*hugs* [to everyone..yeah yeah to the guys too :P tum bhi kya yaad rakhongey.. :D]

Thanks for being there...

Aha!! now do you really think that's an end to all gloomy posts and the rants...yeah yeah as if... not so fast... they will be there for sure... but fewer and in not so regular intervals :D

there I'm done with my apologies... now you can heave a sigh of relief!! :D

chal chal bahut ho gaya...mera nautanki...ab comments ki bari... :D!!

I had this pending for a long long time now. and since im just taking a lil break and cant seem to manage to think of something to write.. just imagine ive been blogging daily during exams and now when they are over, i seem to have a writers block :) anyway happy reading and hey! do answer them too as your comments :)

1.
Name the thing you sleep with.
my cellphone :) and my dreams

2. The best excuse you ever gave to your parents to miss school.
hey! i never missed school!! i used to get attendance certificate :)

3. Your dream man/woman ie the qualities you expect in your life partner.
maturity. ettiquetes, sensitivity, loyalty and honesty

4. The first boy/girl who asked for your phone no.
there was this sexy neighbour, we infact dated and then broke off [i was under false impression that i was in love!! :P]

5. The worst quality in boys/girls.
boys- no matter what you need you will never get 'all' of the guys, there will still be some ambiguous corners that you can never ever reach out to. [exceptions are there]

girls- are inhibited and are big time spoil sports with their frills and furs. [exceptions are there]

6. The moment of life you felt proud of yourself. Please put up the incident also.
when i won my school elections to win the vice house captian of Yellow house [in class 9 you become the vice captain through elections, first major post in school] then i went on to being house captain the following year and then again the prefect in 11 and 12, occupying all the major positions in school, that too through voting where the whole school had to participate. and the bliss came when both the two years of my [vice &] captaincy my house won!! :D it was a great moment to raise the cup and my best friend being the loudest person cheering for me! bliss!

7. The worst habit/quality in you.
im overtly critical, the first person i criticize is me. :D

8. A thing you always wear except clothes.

5 things you must try...

This is the last of the 5 random posts.. my exams finish today and i ll be back to blogging on more relevant things :) but i guess i ll take a break once i update my blog with with my whereabouts but that's tonight :) till then check this post out...
1. you must get wet in the rain.. you don't know what you have missed until you have done this. and no getting wet unintentionally when you are not carrying your umbrella does not count.

2.try waking up at around 4-4.30 in the morning.. see the darkest hour of night break away to a golden morning.. its beautiful.. try it in months of September-October.. winter mornings are just simply great as well...

3. sit down with a piece of paper and pen and write down thoughts as it comes to your mind... you ll see the beautiful chain of thoughts as it moves from one to another.. its kinda nice... i tried it once after i finished my class test and was doodling around :P
4.for this one, you must lie beneath the stars and view the sky.. its really an out of the world feeling....i ll guarantee you a beautiful evening for sure...sounds filmy i know but star gazing is a great hobby and feels great to be lost in the vastness of the sky..it actually teaches you humility.

5.if you absolutely hate someone and thinking about him/her fills you with anger.. take a paper and draw the person as you please. and once done burn it up. its a liberating feeling and works wonders. lets off the steam the best way possible.

5 DesertsYou Must Savour!

My blog is increasingly turning out to be a food blog.. not that i mind really.. i just want to blog but what with exams on and all really cant invest time and energy to think and write something meaningful thus these random 'food' posts.. now you know whats literally on my mind these days.. here are 5 deserts which is a must have .. they are not necessarily all bengali dishes ...

1.rosogolla.. this is a patent of all bengali's and in case you didnt know freshly made and hot.. yeah you heard it right.. hot rosogollas are absolutely yummy

2.nolen gurer sondesh o payesh- this is a type of you can make sweets as well as what is popularly known as kheer or rice custard.. it is available only during winters in any parts of Kolkata, or West Bengal nowadays i think you get it anywhere in India.. not really too sure of it.

5 Veggie Dishes

It was really sad to see some of my friends being vegetarians reading my last post because i know it must be difficult for them to see non veg stuff let alone read about it. so this post is just for them.

1. for me palak paneer tops the list.. one should have it in winter because palak is nice and fresh then.. and they are simply yummy

2.shukto-this is a bengali dish which is made from posto and veggies and is a little bitter.

3.neem begun- neem leaves and brinjal, this is bitter too but then totally great.

4.baingan ka bharta-you need to roast the brinjal, add corriander and onnions with oil, and salt and makes for an amazing meal with roti.. not a bengali dish though but we have them too..

5.aloo dom-this is one of my favourite and dad loves the aloo dom i make.. it is really sumptuous if it is had with puri or luchi in bengali..

5 bengali dishes you must savour

Here are five Bengali dishes you must savor.. you don't know what you have missed until you have tried them .. all those who are veggies will miss out a bit, because Bengali's are hardcore non-vegetarians. Moreover fish is a staple diet here so it is essential in almost all delicacies..

<--crabs

1.Lou Chingri -prawns are really yummy when cooked with louki in hindi and sometimes coconut too. FYI prawns are considered as insects :)

2. Kakra or crabs are an absolute yum.. and they are insects too :)

3. Doi Rui-dahi[curd] and rohu fish are absolutely delicious..

chingri-->

4.Hilsha is renowned to be a favourite for Bengali's is truly the king of all fishes. and when cooked with mustard or cur is totally heavenly.

5.shorshe chicken- mustard and chicken seemed like a weird combination at first but trust me it is really out of the world.

Shoppaholic

I have always maintained that i am not a miser, just a careful spender. I have rambled on how i save every dime.. because saving comes easy to me. and that if i dont save i feel something killing me inside.. yes yes i Was like this, a few months back. and now??Well something must have bitten me.

Earlier dad would give me an amount of money durign pujas and tell me, 'go get yourself a nice pair of jeans and a tee that you like'. so this dad's darling daughter would go shopping either with samik or my friend ipsy. so with the amount dad gave usually id end up getting 1 pair of jeans,1 skirt, 2 tee shirts, 1 kurti, 1 hang bag, 1 pair of shoes, accesories and what now. id never go for branded instead i would shy from it and go for more affordable stuff from great bargain place. qauntity would matter, you know na? with college and all, you do need clothes.

But Hey Bhaggu, with time I have changed drastically. From saver i have become spender. i do save money without doubt... but once in 2-3 months. I cant help but pick up stuff from the malls. somehow i just cant help but buy branded stuff. its like i do wait to get what i want but then i don't settle for anything but that comes with a tag.Jeez!! i must be going crazy. just when my 'things to buy' list ends then another crops up. i never seem to run out on the things i have to buy. each month i seem to buy something that i think i "need" what will happen to me. i dont ever carry my card so its even more easy, samik's card always comes handy, specially since i don't have to deal with real money transaction only card i dont feel the pinch. but hey! i do return the amount and that is when i feel the pinch. but no worries. i get over it in no time. trust me!! Hey Bhaggu save me!! this is supposed to be my THE financial year.. i have saved 3/4 of what i promised i will... just pray that i don't buy anything this month then i ll be on target.. because ive already bought myself an expensive sweater and a tee.. and new year is not anyway near the corner.. and i will have to wait till the 15th next month to be in a better stabilizing condition..

P.S- im maha upset. i had asked dad to trim my hair and he reduced my waist length hair to just below my shoulder.. thats whooping 6-8 inches :O but its okay... my hair grows back rapidly.. touchwood.. im in mourning.. im having a bad hair day!! :(
